1. Mark Twain or Samuel L. Clemens in real life, who lived in Hartford for several years, is the author of Huckleberry Finn---a classic American novel.
 
2. Mark Twain's house,which was on Farmington Avenue and in an area called Nook Farm, was very elaborate and elegant and it is neighboring Harriet Beecher Stowe---writer of Uncle Tom's Cabin.
 
3. Mark Twain's home has a large side porch which is overlooked by windows and a balcony--- reminds people of a steam boat which was piloted by Twain on the Mississippi during his youth.

4.Mark Twain was one of the first three people in Hartford to own a telephone, which was first commercially used in nearby New Haven, but there was practically no one to talk to and he never liked this newfangled gadget.

5. Mark Twain loved industrial inventions---he lost a fortune investing in them---and one of this invention was the elaborate Paige typesetter--- unfortunately for him, this machine was developed as the same time as the Linotype, a much simpler and less expensive machine.

6. After her beloved daughter died, due to spinal meningitis, Mark Twain never felt the same about the house again so he left the house and Hartford----though he returned once during the funeral of his friend, Charles Dudley Warner.
